IN PMI, CAN WE USE ANOTHER NUMBER IN THE SET GIVEN {N} AS THE BASE CASE   

EG; WHILE PROVING THE SUM OF ALL POSITIVE INTEGERS UP TO N IS n(n+1)/2 ,

IN THE FIRST STEP IN PMI (BASE CASE) MUST "1" BE USED AS THE BASE CASE OR "ANY POSITIVE INTEGER" N CAN BE USED

It depends on what you are asked to prove. If you're told to prove a statement that holds for integers k = 3 to k = n, then your base case would be k = 3.
